BMW Announces New Sensor Technology

If you drive a BMW, you know why it's a leader in the luxury class. Vehicles like the 2012 328i and the 2012 X5 xDrive35i consistently win over drivers because of their impressive styling and intelligent design.
Well, the class-leader is about to get a little more intelligent. Most BMW models come with sensors to improve the safety and comfort of the driver. However, even the most advanced sensors these days have a limited level of predictability. Which is why, BMW, a company that never stops at "good enough," has taken this technology to its next step with a system called, "Car-to-X." With this system, drivers will be able to "see" long distances ahead, even around corners.
This new "Car-to-X" system will send electronic communications from vehicle to vehicle as well as vehicle to road infrastructure. It operates via WLAN or mobile phone connections at high speeds. This system will allow real-time communications for a large number of users simultaneously. In combination with already existing sensor technology, BMW hopes to create a more efficient and safe driving experience across the board.
Better reaction time will not only mean a higher level of safety for all drivers, but also an increased efficiency for the vehicles themselves. Imagine if you knew that the stop light around the corner was about to change to red? You would probably change your driving pattern to better accommodate the change - thereby adding to the fuel-efficiency of your vehicle, which in turn means a lesser impact on the environment.
These are just some of the advantages of this emerging technology. Stayed tuned with the Kuni BMW blog to stay up to date on the latest news from BMW and any developments on "Car-to-X" technology. We'll be the first to let you know when you can find this technology on any new BMW models in our showroom, located at 10999 SW Canyon Rd Beaverton, OR.
